Glycolysis requires the sugar molecule and 2 ATP molecules. Also, remember that it does NOT require oxygen.

Glycolysis takes place in the cytoplasm of cells. Although it can occur when oxygen isn't present, it won't produce any ATP (energy) when there is no oxygen.
