A school-aged child with cystic fibrosis has been admitted with a respiratory infection. The child has been very disruptive and angry with staff and parents. What does the nurse suspect is the reason for the child's uncooperative behavior?

    As children become irritable when they are in pain, afraid, and in uncertain surroundings. The nurse may suspect the child is having chest pain from the infection and is irritable and afraid. The child might be having issues catching their breath as well.
