    Phospholipids are found to form the basic structural component of the cell membrane. They exist as a lipid bilayer that contains cholesterol and glycerol to make the membrane more consistent. This protects the cell from large molecules and at the same time be permeable to ions and organic molecules that are beneficial to the cell.
