Imagine that you are performing a cross involving seed texture in garden pea plants. You cross true-breeding round and wrinkled parents to obtain F1 offspring.

Which of the following experimental results in terms of numbers of plants are closest to what you expect in the F2 progeny?

a) 810 round seeds

b) 810 wrinkled seeds

c) 405:395; round seeds:wrinkled seeds

d) 610:190; round seeds:wrinkled seeds

    D) 610:190, round seeds:wrinkled seeds

    Explanation:

    Let round seed as R and wrinkled seed as r.

    So the round is dominant (R) over wrinkled (r).

    Hence, round is dominant and wrinkled is recessive rr.

    Now cross between pure round (RR) and pure wrinkled (rr).

    RR * rr

    F1 offspring are: Rr (all)

    Now cross between F1 offspring;

    Rr * Rr

    F2 are = RR, Rr, Rr and rr

    RR and Rr = round

    rr = wrinkled.

    round to wrinkle ratio is = 3:1

    So, 610:190; round seeds:wrinkled seeds is the expected result in the F2 progeny.
