    (2) 3'→5'

    During transcription, after the RNA polymerase has bound the promoter it begins to elongate the RNA primer in the 5’ to 3’ direction. However, the polymerase reads the DNA template in 3’ to 5’ direction. This is due to the fact that the created strand must be antiparallel to the template strand.
