The sun with it dominant mass exerts the greatest gravitational force in the solar system and holds all the other objects in orbit and governs their motion. The planets travel around the sun in paths or orbits called ellipses.

The sun has the most gravity in the solar system because it has the most mass. Mass has the ability to warp the space around it; the space is bowed out away from the mass and wants to spring back towards the mass. The potential of space pushing back towards the mass creates a force towards the mass. Therefor gravitational pull is more accurately

space pushing in toward the mass.
