Comparing the genome of the vertebrates (humans) and the invertebrates, the genome of the vertebrates generate greater diversity than invertebrates. The complexity arises due to the formation of different polypeptides in the organism which could be formed by the following ways:

    1. The alternative splicing of RNA which produces different functional protein from a single exon or coding sequence.

    2. Multi exon genes are present in the humans which could lead to the formation of multiple polypeptides.

    3. The Post-translational modification like the glycosylation, addition of functional groups to the proteins allows the protein to perform multiple functions.

Thus, the vertebrates are more diverse than the invertebrates which were evolved earlier than the vertebrates.
