    Human papilloma virus (HPV) is among a family of over 100 viruses. They include the viruses which cause works warts. Transmission is through skin to skin contact.

    Human papilloma viruses are now recognized as the major cause of cervical cancer. They play a role in cancers of the anus, vulva, vagina and some cancers of the oropharynx - the middle part of the throat that also includes the soft palate, the base of the tongue and the tonsils.

    Human papilloma virus infection may also cause cancer of the penis.
