STI or Sexually Transmitted Infection is an infectious disease acquired by getting in sexual contact with an infected person. STIs can be prevented and there are many practices that can lower someone's risk of becoming infected. Here are three practices that have been proven effective:

    1. Have yourself tested regularly. Regular assessment and check up is necessary once you become active in sex. This is to ensure that you are not infected since relying on symptoms is useless because it is most of the time asymptomatic. Early detection is also the aim of regular check ups.

    2. Protect yourself. Always use condoms and other means of protection when engaging in sex. You will never know if your partner is infected or not.

    3. Vaccinations. Vaccinations have been proven in lowering the risk of acquiring diseases. Be informed about the latest vaccines for STIs and have yourself vaccinated.
