Invasive insect species can cause severe damage to native trees and plants. Some insects bore into live trees and then get transported when trees are cut for use in numerous products. Wooden crates used for packing materials may be infested with insects or eggs that are then transported over long distances. What is one safe and practical way that people can act responsibly to prevent spreading potentially harmful and invasive insects?

Answer: Pest control strategies should be applied.

Invasive species are those species which when introduced into an new habitat causes major harm and destroy the natural reserves. In the given condition the insects are inhabiting the trees and causing damage. To control the colonies of the insects in the wooden materials suitable pest control strategies should be applied. Some of them are:

    1. Fumigation: It is a treatment of the wood by sealing it in an air tight tent and a insecticidal spray is applied. The material is kept for long hours to kill the wood boring pests.

    2. Sterilization: The mass of wood boring pests or insects is killed by sterilizing the wood with the X-rays.

    3. Use of termiticides: Termiticides are special insecticides that can be used to kill the termites, which is an insect species feeds on the wood.
