As the names would suggest, the earth sciences broadly treat our understanding of how the earth works, at all levels from the Inner Core to near outer space, whereas environmental science focuses on the parts of Earth where life exists, with particular but by no means exclusive concern for human life, and for impacts of and vulnerabilities to chemicals, heat, radiation, precipitation, atmospheric composition, water composition, etc. Environmental engineering is also very important and deals with mitigation of whatever environmental science regards as environmental threats.
