    Many rivers begin on steep mountain slopes. Near their source, these rivers can be fast-flowing. Far down along its course, these rivers can slow down. As the rivers flow, it can pick up sediment and can widen a valley. As the rivers slow down, it can place down sediments to create various landforms.
