Two types of growth in bone:

    Enchondral growth Intramembranous growth

    Explanation

In case of Enchondral bone growth, bone arises from hyaline cartilage. Except the flat bones, all other types of bones are formed by enchondral bone growth.

Intramembranous bone growth is the development of bone from fibrous membrane. It is direct development of bone from primitive connective tissue, without involvement of intermediate cartilage Flat bones of skull (i. e frontal, parietal and portion of occiput and emporal bones), mandible and the clavices are formed by this method.
