Drugs contain inactive ingredients to facilitate the manufacturing process of a pharmaceutical product like tablets, capsules, syrups, suppositories, and injections. They may also be referred to as inert ingredients or excipients with no pharmacological or therapeutic use. Most of the inactive ingredients include binding materials, coloring or dyes, preservatives, and flavoring agents. They are used to mask the undesirable taste of the active ingredient and effectively be part of delivering pharmacological effect.
