The eye is able to function as it does because of specialized receptor cells which develop as part of the retina. vision is considered to be our dominant special sense, but we have several other special senses.

    Besides vision, there are other specialized sensory receptors with special senses like hearing, smell, taste and equilibrium are present. These sensory receptors contain special cells which give specific information to the central nervous system (CNS). Taste buds are sensory receptors located on the tongue, olfactory epithelium are sensory receptor located in the nasal cavity.
