The correct answer will be option-E

    Explanation:

The neuron is the functional unit of the nervous system which transmits the signals to and fro the tissue and nervous system. The neurons transmit the signals in the form of an electrical impulse as a result of the movement of the ions across the neuron.

When a neuron does not transmit any signal therefore it is known to be at rest but at rest, the movement of ions takes place but very slowly. The movement ions lead to the accumulation of sodium ions inside than outside whereas potassium ions are concentrated outside as compared to inner.

This charge difference leads to the disequilibrium in the charges and hence a potential gradient is created. This potential is known as resting potential.

Thus, option-E is the correct answer.
