How is cytokinesis different in plant v. animal cells

    Cytokinesis in plants and animals is different because of the presence of cell wall in plant cells.

    Animal cells form the contractile ring after the sister chromatid separation (anaphase of mitosis). The final step of cytokinesis in animal cells is abscission when the actin-myosin ring (contracted all the way) creates the cytokinetic furrow and the plasma membranes undergo fission to finally separate the two cells.

    On the other hand, plant cells form a cell plate in the middle of the cell. The Golgi apparatus releases vesicles that contain cell wall components, which fuse and form the cell plate. The cell plate first begins as a fusion tube network and then becomes a tubulo-vesicular network as more and more components are added.
