Changes in the gene pool can occur due to various mechanisms. From 1892 to 1954, millions of individuals emigrated (moved out) from countries across the Atlantic Ocean to the United States. Many of these individuals entered through Ellis Island, a federal immigration station in New York. Which mechanism affected the gene pool of the immigrants that entered the United States through Ellis Island?

The mechanism that affected the gene pool of the immigrants that entered the United states Through Ellis Island is Gene flow.

Gene flow involves the movement of genes or alleles between interbreeding populations of a particular species. In other words it is the movement of genes from one population to another population. Actually it may be an important aspect of evolution; evolution can occur as a result of genes being transferred from one population to another. Gene flow occurs when there is migration, since the loss or addition of people can easily change pool frequencies even without no other evolutionary mechanisms operating.

The correct answer for this mechanism is gene flow: gene flow is the mechanism of a change in the gene composition in a population as a result of migration.

The migration from other countries into the Us was an example of a large-scale migration, so it resulted in a gene flow.
