    The transcription process proceeds in three steps: initiation, elongation and termination. The process is mediated by the enzyme RNA polymerase which adds complementary nucleotides to the RNA through energy-dependent process gaining energy from the pyrophosphate or two bonded phosphate groups.

    The RNA polymerase runs in the direction of 3' TO 5' polarity adding nucleotides to 3' - OH groups on one strand. The base pairing occurs between four different bases that are adenine will bind to uracil instead of thymine and cytosine will bind to guanine through three hydrogen bonds.
