    An "if-then" hypothesis is one that aims to find the correlation between two certain events, by predicting the effect of the "if" event on the "then" event. In this case, an "if-then" hypothesis may be,

    "If the amount of pollution is increased, then the rate of respiration of the yeast will decrease"

    Such a hypothesis is then tested to determine whether the initial correlation was correct or not.
