    Explanation:

    Gycolysis is an energy intensive process. This means that a lot of energy is needed to break down the glucose molecules into the form that make it easier to absorb in the gycolysis pathway. The glucose, once broken, is combined in the phosphorylation step so that there is a formation of a bisphosphate compound. This requires the enzyme phosphorylaze enzyme to break the glucose and generate 2 bisphosphate molecules combined with the glucose. In the reduction process, 2 protons, or hydrogen ions are needed.
