A student draws a diagram of an E. coli cell, which is a type of bacteria. He draws and labels the cytoplasm, the cell membrane, DNA, and mitochondria. What is one problem with his diagram

    The bacterial cell is devoid of mitochondria.

    Prokaryotes refer to the single-celled species like archaea and bacteria. These species are devoid of any nucleus and rather exhibits the genetic material in free-floating state inside the cell.

    These species also lacks the membrane-bound organelles, which are found in eukaryotes, and as mitochondria is a double-membrane bound organelle, thus, mitochondria will not be present in a bacterial cell.
