What was your initial sense of mccandless's mental condition compared to what you think now? have you changed your mind?

At first, I thought that McCandless mental condition is normal and his sanity is just the result of his superb intelligence. Now, I changed my mind about his mental condition because he has this guilt that needs to be resolved so he would not be wrapped up to his brilliant ideas that made him think crazy things.
