    A. The carbohydrates produced by plants in the process of photosynthesis are metabolized by animals in the process of respiration. Without plants conducting photosynthesis creating a by-product waste of oxygen, animals would not be able to breathe. By plants conducting photosynthesis, animals receive oxygen, plants receive carbon.
