Some chemicals persist while some chemicals degrade in the environment. The main reason of persistence is their structure composition. Some chemicals when exposed to light, they are broken down into fragments and degradation occurs. Chemicals containing halogens groups molecules are resistant to environmental stress so they remain in the environment for very long time and causes damage to the organisms.
