    The effect of damage to the auditory association area in the left hemisphere is inability to understand what is heard. Language, the ability to communicate with words is a peculiarly human ability and possibly originates from certain specialized areas of the cortex on the left hemisphere. A sharp blow on the left of the head might result in an inability to understand or produce he spoken word or make grammatically complex sentence whereas a blown on the right would not. Speech consists almost entirely of content words. Some specific areas are seem associated with specific memories or behaviors while the left and right sides appear to have grossly the same topography and internal anatomy for some functions the left side seems to dominate the right.
