The brain relies on the visual cues and the inner ear to properly orient the body. Motion sickness happens when the vehicle encounters a lot of bumps, sways sideways, and goes up and down in a rhythmic manner. These disturbances cause a confusion in the brain due to a mismatch in the information relayed by the ears and the eyes. The eyes perceive a smooth linear motion while the ears sense a wavy motion. This makes one feel sick.

Motion sickness is a condition caused by the disagreement of the visual and the balancing organ. In the motion sickness, the eye is not able to sense any change in the position, but due to the movement the ear continuously send signals to the brain.

This results in the decrease in the eye-ear coordination and causes uneasiness, discomfort, nausea and vomiting.

So, Austin is facing conflicts between ear (balancing) and eye (visual).
