The floating disks corresponds with the solution of carbon dioxide and also the light. when carbon dioxide solution and light is present, the leaf disks react and start floating on the surface. The leaf disk will still rise to the surface if there is only carbon dioxide but in the presence of light it will take less time and if no light it will take much longer.
