Death by a predatory animal is part of the food chain, it means that the environment is healthy and that the higher food-chain animals are finding food. For an animal to starve, that means that there isn't enough food somewhere in the chain. If there isn't enough plant-life, then the herbivores begin to die out, and without enough herbivores, the carnivores won't have enough food either.

The food chain is very important to ecosystems.
