Thousands of farms are located along the Mississippi River and its tributaries through the central U. S. As water washes into the river after a heavy rain, it brings with it nutrients from fertilizers added to farmland. These materials flow downriver and eventually enter the Gulf of Mexico, where they create conditions for a dead zone - a region of the ecosystem that can't support any living creatures. This is an example of a Tragedy of the Commons. Why is the dead zone seasonal?

I thinks it's because since the water washed away all the land, the fish that was living in the water would be washed on land, and all the land animals might be either washed away along with the wave, or drowned due to not knowing how to swim or can't get out of the water in time when submerged underwater, causing almost all creatures living there to die out!

    D) Summer has greater potential for dead zones because water is warmer, containing less dissolved oxygen. Also, warmer summer temperatures and greater light intensity leads to greater algal growth.
