The first microscopes were made in the 1590s.
Explanation:
Even though microscopes were made at such an early period, they had no scientific purpose during the early years. They were just a magnifying instrument and conflicts exist regarding who the inventor is.
Science wasn't advanced enough at that time to make scientific use of microscopes for discoveries.
Antony van Leeuwenhoek is credited with the use of microscope for scientific discoveries for the first time. He made a microscope which had far better resolution than previous microscopes and observed bacteria, protista, nematodes etc. His invention was in the year 1650.
