Why is heartwood darker in color than sapwood?

    the reason why heartwood is darker in color than sapwood is : A. heartwood is closer to the center of the stem wood's color will become darker and darker as it ages. And the older it is, the closer it wouyld be to the stem, which is the reasen why heartwood is darker in color than sapwood
