When encountering other vessels in darkness or reduced visibility, what does a visible white light indicate?

    When only white light is visible while encountering a vessel at night or in reduced visibility, this indicates that the vessel ahead is moving the same direction as our vessel. The white light is located at the tail end, so in such an encounter you may overtake the vessel ahead by giving way to either side.
