Which of the following statements about a plot of V0 versus [S] for an enzyme that follows Michaelis-Menten kinetics is true? A) Km is the [S] at which V0 has become equal to Vmax. B) The plot gives a straight line. C) At very high [S], the V0 versus [S] curve approaches a horizontal line that, when extrapolated back, intersects the y-axis at Vmax. D) The plot is a curve that becomes steeper as [S] becomes larger. E) The y-axis has units of concentration.

    C) At very high [S], the V0 versus [S] curve approaches a horizontal line that, when extrapolated back, intersects the y-axis at Vmax.

    Explanation:

The velocity of reaction Vo increases with increasing substrate concentration giving a curve but until enough enzyme is present to convert the substrate to product, once the Vmax is reached, all the enzymes are occupied and adding further substrate won't increase Vo.

Km is the substrate concentration at which Vo is half of Vmax.

    The plot is a curve

The plot does not become steeper with substrate concentration.

y-axis has units of Vo or velocity.
