Glycolysis is dependent on oxygen, as oxygen molecules are necessary to break down the glucose molecule, the target of glycolysis. When an air supply is cut off, Oxygen is cut off as well. Thus, glycolysis cannot support brain cells without oxygen, as without oxygen, glycolysis does not occur and cannot be catalyzed in a normal environment.
