    Well, here are two definitions that simply describe a hydrocarbon w / examples of hydrocarbons: molecule containing one or more carbon atoms chained together (there does not need to be any hydrogen atoms, but in most cases there are some) A hydrocarbon is a molecule that is made of hydrogen atoms and carbon atoms. methane CH4 ethane C2H6 benzene C6H6
