Blue-green algae plays an important part in the nitrogen cycle by recycling ammonia into nitrates and by "fixing" elemental nitrogen into a form that can be used by organisms. A decrease in this alga would have a large negative impact on the marine environment. However, not all algae play the same role in the environment. Explain how a bloom (a drastic increase) of algae can cause problems in the marine environment.

Algae bloom or an increase inalgae can produce toxins. This happens when their are a lot of nutrients present in the water. It affects the biological activities of marine life such as reproduction and mortality rate. Aside from this, it also contributes to increase in temperature in its area.
