The answer is a treeline beyond which trees do not grow.

    Explanation:

Trees are unable to grow beyond that treeline because of the harsh climate conditions. At high altitudes, the temperature decreases and is too low for the vegetation to develop. The top of the mountain is exposed which means it gets very fast winds. Water is scarce at higher altitudes. When it rains the water runs down the side of the mountain quickly or enters the groundwater storage. Without water, vegetation will be unable to grow.
