Which statement accurately describes a difference between mitosis and meiosis? Meiosis begins with a haploid cell and mitosis begins with a diploid cell. Meiosis involves one cell division and mitosis involves two cell divisions. Meiosis produces four haploid cells and mitosis produces two diploid cells. Meiosis increases chromosome numbers in a cell and meiosis reduces chromosome numbers in a cell.

    Mitosis makes two identical daughter cells (so both are diploid).

    Meiosis makes 4 haploid cells (each with half the chromosomes of the original cells) ... these are how the gamete cells (sperm/egg) are made.
