A bad line measurement (aka control) is set up so that you can compare your results from each test against so it gives the values a meaning as it shows how they differ from eachother

A baseline measurement, or control variable, is important in scientific investigations because:

    1. It allows you to compare the independent variable to the normal variable.

    2. It allows you to test how effective the independent variable was.

    3. It is easier to draw conclusions with a base line or control

    4. In anything, a base line always allows you to formulate your goal.
