The various steps are involved in glycolysis in order to produce energy, and convert glucose into pyruvate. The conformational changes in the structure of glucose and its conversion require various enzymes to act upon and produce 2 ATP molecules, that too without oxygen. The NAD which accepts electrons, during the process, passes the energy to other pathways also. So, each step has its own significance.
