    That is because the first animals were usually very small and very soft so there was nothing there that could fosilize. Usually the things that fosilize are bones, and amoebas and their ancestors don't have any so they wouldn't be able to fosilize. The first animals were mostly like unicellular bacteria found nowadays or similar things.
