    The cellular membrane is selectively permeable which means it allows the movement of little essential substance from outside and movement of non-essential substances from inside. Along with this several neural activities are controlled through this property of cell membrane that allows to and fro. Movement of specific kind of ions.

    It does not allow movement of all substance, particles and ions through it and hence they are selective.
