Although both involves the release of energy to the surroundings, these two terms are not synonymous with each other. In a reaction that is considered as exergonic reaction, it is the chemical bonds of the substances that is focused on. The chemical bonds that are formed, in this reaction, have much stronger energy than those that are broken. On the other hand, for an endothermic reaction, it is the temperature that is focused on. In this case, the temperature of the surroundings are being increased. Specifically, heat energy is being released to the environment. Basically, exergonic is a general term while exothermic is specific.
