Luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) are secreted by the pituitary gland in the blood. These hormones target ovaries in females. LH plays a role in ovulation. Ovulation is a release of an egg from the ovary that is important for reproduction. FSH plays a role in the growth of follicles in the ovary and also weakens the walls of the ovary to release the eggs from it. The release of eggs induces ovulation that can lead to fertilization.

In a infertile women, LH and FSH work like natural hormones that induce ovulation.
