When a sound wave moves through the air, it causes air particles to vibrate. There are two parts to the tiny movements that result in vibration. During the first part, air particles move closer together as they move into regions of compression. During the second part of the movement, the air particles spring back to their original positions. During which portion of the vibration do the air particles have kinetic energy?
