A patient has suspected epiglottitis. what is the most appropriate action for the nurse practitioner

The epiglottitis causes a person to have his or her windpipe to swell and could cause the flow of breathing to be blocked in a way that the patient could develop a chance of having shortness of breath or worse, having to lost his airway that could cause death. That is why this condition is referred to be as life threatening. The best way or mode of action with a patient experiencing this is to have his or her airway to be cleared or to have a way of having a device to use in order for the patient to breathe. Either it is best to have an intubation or tacheostomy in a way that will stabilize the airway.
