Adult stem cells are that present throughout the body of an individual that divide to restore or fill the place of dying cells or the cells that are damaged are regenerated by these cells.

They are present in adults and as well as in the children known as somatic cells. The major role of these stem cells to maintain the continuity of the cell functioning and replace the dead or regenerate the damaged cell by injury or the disease.

Thus, the correct answer is - replace or regenerate the dead or injured cells respectively.

Adult stem cells are rare. Their primary functions are to maintain the steady state functioning of a cell-called homeostasis-and, with limitations, to replace cells that die because of injury or disease
