    Prions are infectious agents. Unlike viruses, bacteria and other infectious agents. A prion is only composed of amino acids (forming proteins) and has no genetic material. Prions cause bovine spongiform encephalopathy or also known as "mad cow disease". Prions are spread by the transmission of abnormally folded proteins. When a prion enters a healthy organism, it acts on the normal form of the same type of protein in the organism, modifying it and converting it into prion. This is transmitted replicating shapes in a chain reaction.
