We only see hurricanes in the summer months because

There is more rain in the summer and the water is also warmer.

In short, Hurricanes occur when humidity and moisture from the oceans go up into a sort of donut holed vortex. In the summer months is when that moisture and humidity are at its highest because the more warmth there is, the more evaporation / moisture raising into the air.
